A mattress warranty protects your investment, but most people don't read the fine print until something goes wrong. Here's what you need to know about mattress warranties before you buy.
What a Mattress Warranty Covers
Most mattress warranties cover manufacturing defects — problems that result from how the mattress was made, not normal wear and tear.
Typically covered: - Sagging or body impressions deeper than 1.5 inches (without weight on the mattress) - Broken or protruding coils - Manufacturing defects in materials or workmanship - Seam separation or stitching failures
Typically NOT covered: - Normal wear and comfort changes over time - Stains (one of the most common warranty voiders, so always use a protector!) - Damage from improper support (wrong foundation or bed frame) - Burns, cuts, or physical damage - Comfort preference changes ("it's too firm/soft")
Warranty Lengths by Brand
Sealy: 10-year limited warranty on most Posturepedic models. Full replacement for the first 3 years, prorated after that.
Diamond Mattress: 10-15 year warranty depending on the model. Non-prorated for the full term on premium models.
How to Protect Your Warranty
1. Use a mattress protector from day one: This is the single most important thing you can do. A waterproof mattress protector prevents stains that void your warranty. At Mattress Discount Plus, we carry quality protectors.
2. Use proper support: Your mattress needs a solid foundation. A platform bed, box spring, or adjustable base all work. Putting a mattress on the floor or on slats that are too far apart can void your warranty.
3. Keep your receipt: You'll need proof of purchase to make a warranty claim. We keep records of all purchases at Mattress Discount Plus, but it's smart to keep your own copy.
4. Don't remove the law tag: That tag on your mattress contains manufacturing information needed for warranty claims.
How to Make a Warranty Claim
Step 1: Contact the retailer where you purchased the mattress (that's us!)
Step 2: Describe the issue — sagging, broken coils, etc.
Step 3: We'll inspect the mattress or arrange for an inspection
Step 4: If the claim is approved, you'll receive a replacement or credit
